Starting the month right with my favourite lip combo! In today's post, I will like to share my current lip combo that I discover while doing my makeup for my uncle's wedding a month ago. This combo comprises of Revlon's 004 Retro Red and Avon's M201 Matte Wine. I wanted a dark red lipstick to go along with my outfit however, I do not have one in my collection. And so, with these two bad boys, I decided to mix it up and bam! The perfect burgundy.
I would say Retro Red is a gorgeous neutral red shade with a slight warm undertones. Those people with warm complexion will definitely suit this colour. This shade is not that unique neither it is boring. Pair it with a smoky or neutral eyes and you're good to go. In picture, it looks like an orange red shade due to lighting. Anyway, I got mine at Watsons. Meanwhile, M201 Matte Wine is a deep berry shade. If you're on the paler side, then this shade definitely compliments you.
Though they claim to be matte, they aren't. Rather, they are creamier in texture. Hence, if you have super duper dry/cracked lips then you might want to consider these lipsticks instead. Eventhough, it's creamy in formulation but the colour is as opaque as if you're using a pure matte lipstick. Of course, you can go ahead and dabbed powder to lock the shine to make it more matte.
My outfit on that day is a long burgundy satin dress with gold detailed lace at the top. I wanted a lipstick that matches the outfit. Retro Red looks too vibrant when applied whereas M201 Matte Wine appears to dark for the oufit. In my stash, I do not have a burgundy coloured lipstick so I went ahead and mix these two up to get the colour I want. I apply Retro Red on top first followed by M201 Matte wine. This mix gives me the perfect shade, not too vibrant and not too dark.
Hope you enjoy reading this! If any of you have tried any of these lipsticks, please leave a comment below. I would love to hear your thoughts.
See you in my next post! x

PS: I bought these lipsticks some time back. Probably 2 years ago or later. Not sure if they have discontinued it but do check before going out to buy. If I'm not Retro Red is still available in local pharmacy such as Watsons. Also, I think M201 might have a different name now. I might be wrong. Heh.
