Beauty // NYX Dark Circle Concealer

The hardest part about makeup is covering your imperfections such as your dark circles under the eyes. Many of us struggle with that. Several factors cause the dark circles to appear, some of which are genetic while, most of the time is due to the lack of sleep.

Here, I have with me is the NYX Dark Circle Concealer. As the name would suggest, this product helps to conceal the darkness under the eyes. The peachy undertone (it can come off as orange, for some) helps to counteract the blue and purple tones of under eye circles.

There are a total of 4 shades- fair, light, medium and dark. I bought mine at Sephora and it cost me SGD$10. I got the shade "Medium". I was contemplating whether to get the "Dark"or the "Medium' but in the end I stick to the latter. I was clearly unsure of what shade to pick as both looks similar when swatch on my hands. I then settled with the Medium shade as I want it to also act as a brightener under the eye.

I started off by applying my eye cream. This is to hydrate the eye area and makes the concealer sits better. Once the cream sinks in, I then apply the concealer with my fingers. I dabbed the product as I go along my eye area. To avoid streaking, do not attempt the swiping motion. I noticed that whenever I applied this, I do not need much concealing afterwards. But I still go ahead and apply a teeny weeny bit of my everyday concealer just to give that oompf!

In the pot, the product looks dry, but once you stick your fingers in it, the heat will melt the product and you will get this creamy consistency which I like. Some of you might be feeling grossed out when I mentioned sticking my fingers into it. Yes, I do find it unhygienic however, I currently do not have a brush and half the time I'm rushing so I could not be bothered with it. (Note to self, get a freaking brush, a synthetic one).

From the left picture, you can tell that I do not need much coverage as my dark circles are not that severe. I usually focus the product on my inner eye (near the tear duct) where the darkness level is greater and I must say, it does a pretty decent job in covering it. As for the longevity of the concealer, it can last up to 3-4 hours. Bearing in mind that my skin type is oily, products tend to slip and slide. To prevent that, I usually dabbed a translucent powder around the area to set the concealer in place.

Do note that this concealer will harden in colder climate so just remember to rub the pot in between your palms. I noticed this while I was in Melbourne. I thought mine has expired/unusable, but I tried rubbing it and voila, it works!

Have any of you tried this? Do you like it as much as I do? Please comment below, I will love to read your thoughts. Anyway, I'll see you in my next post!

Happy Sunday!

Cheers, xoxo!
