Lipsticks For Everyday Wear

Who else struggles to choose what lipstick to wear? Me! And probably a whole lot of you! The struggle is real. I've made a point that 2016 is the year for me to incorporate lipstick into my daily life. I'm usually a lip balm kind of girl (still am!). However, things got to change and putting on lipstick is one of them. 

If you can't already tell, I have olive skin tone and most of the time, nude lipsticks, particularly the ones sold at drugstores, are either too light for me or they blend in with my skin. Don't get me wrong here, drugstore/pharmacy (or whatever you want to call it) has an amazing lipstick range from their matte formula to the glossy ones and have great selection of shades. The quality is comparable to high end. Also, I have severe case of pigmented outer rim lips so most of the time, the colour do not show up that well. The pigmentation on my lips is not caused by smoking (I do not!). It's just how I was made. Hence, finding the perfect shade (especially nude) in the drugstore can be quite hard.

And so, I turn to high-end in hopes of finding the perfect shade. Of course, M.A.C is my first option. I have 2 of their lipsticks. So I thought why not get another to add into my mini collection. After trying on a few shades, I settled with Kinda Sexy (on the left). It is a matte formula that does not dry out my lips. On the website, it is described as neutral pinky rose but, on me it appears peachy with pink undertone. This shade sold me because it covers the pigmentation on my lips quite well. One thing to note is that without or minimal makeup, this lipstick can wash-out my complexion hence, I usually pair it with a smoky eye or winged eyeliner to balance it out (with added bronzer and blusher).

Since, Kinda Sexy is not suitable for everyday use, my quest of finding the perfect shade continues. One fine day, while shopping, I stumbled upon the Shu Uemura counter. I never try anything from the brand. The only think I know about them is their famous eyelash curler. While browsing through their counter, I came across the lipstick section. Being me, I started swatching and the colour BG944 (on the right) stood out from the rest. It is a warm pink shade. To my surprise, this shade matches my inner rim lips. Compared with Kinda Sexy, this shade is slightly darker and pinkier. I can get away without makeup when wearing this, which is a good thing because some days, I'm just too lazy and can't be bothered with how I look. One thing that I notice, whenever I wear this lipstick, I look fresher and not drained. 

Of course, the quest does not stops there, I will continue to hunt down the perfect shade!
